Upping the Ante: Final Results

berry basket with underplate
Here is the final on the new berry basket and underplate combo, fresh from the kiln.

It was so exciting to pick up this berry basket and underplate combo from my studio on Sunday, because everything seemed to work on this one! The color combos held true and it’s just a gorgeous set!

I had applied Georgies Tree Bark interactive pigment all over and wiped it back, and it really brought out the different textures used inside and outside the basket. I wasn’t sure you’d be able to see it through the speckled Terrazzo glaze inside the basket, but it really defines the pattern and looks wonderful.

Every time I use Spectrum’s Bottle Green celadon when I want to show green over a textured surface, it does not disappoint. It’s a lovely shade of true green that doesn’t fade or turn brown. to the base of the basket, and the bottom of the underplate. I have other green celadons, but once I use them up I’m going to standardize on this one.

The Stroke & Coats really came through for me on all the little accents. Ruby Slippers was the red used on the large flowers, and it held true. Pinks and reds can fade, and I wasn’t sure if this red would wash out to a pink (which would also have worked), but it’s a robust red. Moody Blues was the perfect periwinkle blue for the tiny flowers along the rim of the basket, and the Dandelion I applied to the center of each flower mostly held on. Note to self: do two more coats for the flower centers.

I still torn between Ancient Jasper and Ancient Copper as an accent color along the rims of my baskets. The jasper has some green in it, which is why I thought it would work better on this piece than the copper, since the basket is green. Sometimes it feels like if I use one, I wish I had used the other, but I think the jasper works here so I’m satisfied.
