Pre-glaze Prep: Berry Baskets & Cracker Tray

studio cubbie
Ran out of time today to finish glazing these pieces, but all the prep work is done. I will finish the final glazing later this week, and then they will go back into the kiln for the final glaze firing. I should have them back by the end of the month.

Got another batch of berry baskets and my cracker tray prototype back from bisque, so today is all about prepping for the final glaze firing. The first thing I do is inspect each piece and sand any rough edges, then I wipe everything down with a damp sponge to remove any dust.

Then I apply interactive pigment all over everything, let it dry, and then wipe it back so that the pigment remains around the textured edges. The last step before applying the coats of glaze is to wax the bottoms of all the feet to ensure the pieces won’t fuze to the kiln shelves.

That’s about all the time I had today in the studio, so these pieces will sit on my studio shelf until next time. Mouse-over any of the photos in the slideshow to pause the photos, or click on the arrows to scroll manually through the pictures.
